It is determined that the semantic-syntactic contours of the instrumental case can shift and become more capacious, since it is located in the secondary proper-case object, subject or locative spheres. It is found that in such constructions the analyzed gramme, in addition to instrumentality, acquires a different meaning and semantically approaches to the accusative, nominative and locative cases. The instrumental rarely participates in object transposition. The instrumental case of an object can be included in the valence frame of predicates of action, state and qualitative feature. A mandatory condition for functioning of the instrumental case is its presence within the semantic-syntactic valence of verb predicates with the meaning of leadership, possession. It is outlined that in the grammatical system of the modern Ukrainian literary language, the instrumental case is a productive means of expressing the subjective syntax, therefore, the specified gramme is connected by transformational relations with the nominative case of two-component sentences. The functioning of another type of sentence structures with the instrumental subjective is indicated, that is, passive constructions with the gramme of the instrumental, in which the semantics of instrumentality is strengthened. It is characterized that, in addition to the secondary objective and subjective meanings, the instrumental case functions as a component that depends on action-locative predicates. The case form of the instrumental, in addition to the primary one, plays the role of a secondary representative. This phenomenon is related to internal grammatic transposition, the comprehensive study of which is increasingly reflected in modern functionally oriented studies.</p> V. V. DATSIUK, L. M. SHUST, O. Zhadan's work on contemporary Ukrainian children's literature. The author analyses the works on the study of S. Zhadan's works through the prism of the leading motifs of his lyrics and prose, which reveal a system inherent in the author's style. It is argued that in his works for children and the depiction of the theme of childhood, the author used his inherent and previously tested artistic techniques and ideological appeal to universal moral values. The paper attempts to identify the works that can be included in the children's reading circle, taking into account the specifics of the writer's and translator's creative style. The study traces the thematic aspects of S. Zhadan's work related to the theme of childhood in the context of children's literature, which are inherent not only in the writer's recent works, but are also a constant in his books of previous years, when the author is in search of genre forms that can reflect his philosophical view and ideological position. This is confirmed by the work on a collection of children's poems, song lyrics, and translations of classical and contemporary foreign literature. The author's work is examined through the prism of children's literature and children's reading of contemporary Ukrainian realities, with an emphasis on the adaptation of the author's creative achievements for children's literature in the context of the realities of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The texts that will help children readers to understand important contemporary issues, discuss and comprehend complex issues of life and death, responsibility, civic choice, patriotism, and love are identified. In the context of the study, the author suggests the types of work with S. Zhadan's texts that can be used in the study of his works at school and in extracurricular activities, non-formal literary education. The author emphasises the relevance and necessity of using poetic, prose, and translation achievements of S. Zhadan in working with children's readership.</p> N. I. DZIAMULYCH Copyright (c) 2025 http://www.academstudies.volyn.ua/index.php/humanities/article/view/682 Wed, 19 Mar 2025 00:00:00 +0200 LINGUISTIC REPRESENTATION OF SPACE THROUGH PHRASEOLOGY: A FUNCTIONAL-SEMANTIC APPROACH http://www.academstudies.volyn.ua/index.php/humanities/article/view/683 <p>The article explores the linguistic representation of space through phraseological units that denote the spatial categories of “far” and “near.” It identifies the functional and semantic features of these phraseological units, the mechanisms of spatial image formation, their formal and grammatical structure, and their role in the linguistic picture of the world. The study analyzes the peculiarities of the spatial semantics of phraseological units and their ability to express both physical distance and temporal meanings. It has been determined that phraseological units denoting “far” generally carry a negative expressive connotation associated with inaccessibility, isolation, or obscurity, whereas phraseological units conveying the meaning of “near” are more often characterized by a positive connotation reflecting convenience and accessibility. Additionally, neutral phraseological constructions that lack strong emotional connotations are identified. The study examines the structural features of phraseological constructions, distinguishing between syntactic models (phrases and sentences) and morphological characteristics (prepositional and non-prepositional constructions). The findings can be applied in theoretical linguistics, cognitive linguistics, translation studies, and intercultural communication. The identified patterns reflect the peculiarities of space conceptualization in the Ukrainian language and contribute to the further study of the relationship between spatial and temporal categories in phraseology.</p> M. Cartoons by such wellknown cartoonists as Michael de Adder, Tim Dolighan, Malcolm Mayes, Brian Gable, and Bruce MacKinnon are widely used to highlight Russian aggression against Ukraine and serve as an effective tool for shaping public opinion. Creating a vivid image, cartoons briefly and clearly characterize the essence of a social process, action, or phenomenon. Cartoons stimulate the readership to critically interpret information, contributing to the development of analytical skills and the formation of resistance to Russian propaganda narratives. Cartoonists pay considerable attention to the personality of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. Their works highlight his militaristic policies, desire to revive the Soviet Union, and statements that are at odds with reality. The image of the Kremlin leader symbolizes aggression, hatred, and contempt for peaceful values, and testifies to his desire for authoritarianism and imperial grandeur. Russian politicians use euphemisms, well-known examples of which are “special military operation,” “liberation,” “demilitarization,” and “denazification,” to conceal the true nature of events, disguise truth, and shape public opinion in the desired direction. The content of the analyzed political cartoons is consistent with modern mass media. News, articles, reports in the mass media, data from the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, and information materials from the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine confirm the images of the cartoons, demonstrating the real facts and events of the Russian-Ukrainian war.</p> E. ODARCHUK Copyright (c) 2025 http://www.academstudies.volyn.ua/index.php/humanities/article/view/690 Wed, 19 Mar 2025 00:00:00 +0200 NAMES OF ANTICANCER DRUGS BY DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN MANUFACTURERS: LEXICAL AND SEMANTIC ASPECTS http://www.academstudies.volyn.ua/index.php/humanities/article/view/684 <p>The relevance of this study is determined by the need for standardization and unification of the names of antitumor drugs, which requires an analysis of the lexico-semantic strategies employed by both domestic and foreign manufacturers. The purpose of the research is to identify specific patterns in the creation of pharmaceutical names and trace the relationship between the composition of the drug, its name, and its therapeutic effect. The following methods were used: analysis and synthesis for the theoretical examination of scientific works, comparison and generalization for the analysis of drug names and the pharmaceutical word-forming elements present in them. The study was conducted based on an analysis of fifty two names of antitumor drugs. All names were divided into four groups: 1) names containing word-forming elements indicating the presence of alkaloids; 2) names with word-forming elements pointing to a trivial chemical component; 3) names with segments indicating the therapeutic effect; 4) names whose morphemes provide no information about the functional group or chemical composition (i.e., not directly related to medicine or pharmacology). The analysis revealed that the majority of names are formed using pharmaceutical word-forming elements that indicate the chemical composition of the drug or its therapeutic effect. The largest group consists of names in group 3, which are constructed by combining various term elements, including morphemes of Latin or Greek origin, and names of chemical components. It is worth noting that most names include morphemes derived from the aforementioned languages, such as names of plants included in the composition of the drugs, as well as Greek-Latin term elements that refer to tumors or their destruction. However, English term elements are also occasionally used. Therefore, it can be concluded that in the creation of names for antitumor drugs, the most productive elements are Greco-Latin term components and English vocabulary.</p> O. A. NIKOLAIENKO, I. V. Editing is not just a technical design of a work into a single whole, it is a specific way of organizing cultural existence, which dramaturgy has adopted and uses for a variety of artistic purposes. Editing is a linguistic specificity of imagery, editing simultaneously controls time, space, and movement, creating in the work the illusion of reality that the artist needs to express his ideas. The communicative strategy of editing is revealed in the plays in ambiguity, both formal and substantive. The change of times and spaces, the search for characters recreate the essence of the organization of time and movement through the choice of freedom/unfreedom. The communicative strategy of montage provides the author with a game with time, movement, through the created images, which helps to combine different chronotopes and time dimensions. In the montage composition of both plays, the boundaries between different worlds and times, between life and death are blurred, which is characteristic of the metamodern structure of drama. The cultural context is clearly felt in the plays, it is combined with the scientific and philosophical discourse of the 21st century. The metamodern structure of the plays provides a dialogue with the theatrical tradition, the plays have a tangible influence of the drama of the absurd and the Brechtian tradition, echoes of the boulevard theater and the writing of a modernized myth, but at the same time it is a laboratory where, in experimental conditions, a continuous search takes place, each play is an opportunity to start everything from the beginning in a new way. The movement from chaos to order and vice versa, the game with spacetime thanks to montage as a communicative strategy give the plays fragmentation and integrity at the same time, which simultaneously stimulates and complicates the work of the reader/spectator. Derboux managed to combine several equal and independent lines of action, making the plots of his plays internally unified, monolithic and holistic. They are built on deeply thought-out, multi-valued juxtapositions of characters, events, stage episodes, and lines according to the montage principle. These juxtapositions are very diverse and are made both by similarity and by contrast. Being actually montage at the compositional level, they create a sense of unity of the work in the reader and viewer. The communicative strategy of montage creates external tension in the plays of Thierry Derboux through the "torn" construction of the plot, through overcoming the organicity of the stage world, its undermining. Innovatively saturating his dramaturgy with the movement of thought, a plot-weighted intellectual dialogue, and a socially weighted analytical plot, the playwright undermines the closed nature of stage action and creates a drama built on the montage of contrasting text components and the exposure of the conventions of theatrical action.</p> N. The article clarifies the definition of “terminology” and defines its functions. It is emphasized that in the legal sphere, terminology acquires special importance. Incorrectly used terms can cause errors and misunderstandings in legal practice, which can have negative consequences for the legal relations. The phenomena of monosemy, polysemy, synonymy in legal terminology are considered, the reasons for the emergence of new lexical and semantic variants are determined. In this regard, to ensure the accuracy and unification of terms, there are several elements of the formation of legal terminology, which requires the development of standards and recommendations for the use of English in the legal sphere. The article notes the functions of legal terms, in particular the cumulative and the unification (standardization) functions. The accumulative function of legal terminology arises from the fact that the use of special vocabulary allows to preserve the stability and unity of the legal system, to avoid misunderstandings, to promote the development of science and practice. The function of unification is realized due to the fact that terminology in law ensures the accuracy and unity of legal language. The use of standardized terms allows to avoid ambiguity and ambiguity of legal concepts and terms, to complicate the clarity and comprehensibility for all participants in legal relations. The choice of terminology preserves legal culture and stability of the legal system The relevance of the study is due to the fact that the language of law is a universal tool of institutional communication in the legal system. However, it is included in the correspondence of the national language and must clearly correspond to it, not allowing its use only in a specific environment for the proper regulation of certain aspects of social relations. The current problem is the development of pan-European standards and recommendations for the use of English in the legal sphere. This helps to ensure a unified approach to the formulation of terms and components of legal documents, which is important for maintaining legal accuracy and unification of documents of countries participating in European integration processes.</p> H. The article presents an analysis of the role of language in the formation and transmission of caritative values, noting that the concept of “Diakonie” is an important element of not only religious but also social discourse. Turning to the theological origins of the concept, attention is drawn to its etymology and historical transformations, starting from the biblical understanding of diaconate as service to the neighbour to its modern use in social institutions. The study is grounded in the works of prominent German scholars who conceptualise diaconia within the ambit of church ministry, social work and language representation. A particular focus is accorded to the cognitive and linguistic dimensions of the analysis, with an emphasis on the employment of corpus-based methodologies to discern the interrelationships between the notion of “Diakonie” and associated terms in the German language. The study reveals that the concept is characterised by a broad spectrum of meanings, ranging from its traditional Christian origins to its contemporary applications in social practices centred on solidarity and assistance to vulnerable groups. A significant finding of the study is the substantiation of the hypothesis that language plays a pivotal role in the formation of caring ideals and their solidification in the public consciousness. A detailed analysis of the texts and discursive practices in which the concept of “Diakonie” is employed facilitates an understanding of its semantic evolution, with particular attention being paid to the gradual expansion of the religious content of the concept, its integration into new social contexts, and the reflection of these developments in modern vocabulary and phraseology. The analysis also examines the impact of social changes and theological interpretations on the transformation of the concept's meanings. The article thus makes a significant contribution to the field by offering a comprehensive understanding of diakonia as an interdisciplinary phenomenon combining theological, social and linguistic dimensions. A review of the theolinguistic aspect allows not only to trace the evolution of the concept in different discourse contexts, but also to identify the mechanisms of its functioning in modern society. Furthermore, the study underscores the instrumental role of language in the formation of socially significant categories, a finding that is of crucial significance for the advancement of research in the domains of religious linguistics and cognitive semantics.</p> L. By analyzing dialogues, descriptions of objects, and narrative structure, this study highlights the complex use of archaic language, metaphor, and poetic devices. The use of language in the game is not only functional, but also serves as a means of immersing players in the mythological and philosophical connotations of its universe. The use of archaic vocabulary and grammar, reminiscent of middle and early modern English, is highlighted as the leading one, which evokes a sense of antiquity, immersing the player in a world steeped in tradition and mystery. The article presents the linguistic means that create a formal, almost sacred tone, which corresponds to the game's themes of fate, divine intervention, and existential struggle. The article delves into the narrative function of NPCs dialogues, which are characterized by mystery and fragmentation of the narrative. It is proved that characters provide important information while maintaining an atmosphere of uncertainty, inviting players to piece together the story through research and conclusions. This fragmented approach reflects the literary techniques inherent in modernist and postmodernist works, where the narrative is intentionally non-linear and open to interpretation. By analyzing linguistic and stylistic elements, the article argues that «Elden Ring” goes beyond traditional game narratives, offering players an experience similar to interacting with a richly structured literary work. The game's language functions not only as a storytelling tool, but also as an important component of its artistic expression, combining the mechanics of gameplay with a deep sense of myth and legend. The article emphasizes the educational value of analyzing «Elden Ring” for students of computer science. By studying the game's linguistic and stylistic elements, students can gain insight into how narrative design and language interact with coding and game mechanics to create an immersive storytelling experience. Understanding these aspects allows students to integrate creative linguistic features into their own projects, improving their ability to create engaging narratives in video game development. The main field of emergence of new tokens, the realization of their expressive potential and content load is the public discourse. It contributes to the dynamics of functional purpose at the current stage of development of language formations. The purpose of the article is an extended analysis of semantic dynamics in Ukrainian and English vocabulary under the influence of socio-political processes. The study found that the phenomenon of semantic derivation is one of the key evolutionary factors of language. The types of public discourse that influence the semantics of vocabulary are considered: political, media, economic. It has been found that semantic derivation is a multi -level complex process of forming new meanings, characterized by the concomitant dynamics of the semantic structure of the word. It is established that semantic changes under the influence of socio-political dynamics are formed by the influence of extra-linguistic and intra-language factors. The phenomenon of semantic innovations in the aspect of influence on the general lexical-semantic system of language, promotion of its openness and dynamism is considered. It is established that semantic changes are positioned by peculiar markers of the day, while some of them exist for a short time, disappearing in the future or integrating with a passive vocabulary. It is substantiated that non -secantisms can have contextual dependence or be widely used.The study conducted an extended semantic-stylistic analysis of fixed semantic innovations, their stratification was carried out, the mechanisms of their origin and specific functioning in Ukrainian and English vocabulary were substantiated. The results of the study have practical value in the context of the conclusion of vocabulary, clarification of the criteria of semantic-stylistic analysis of the studied, further detailing of the channels of distribution and functioning of semantic innovations.</p> O.
