Abstract

The positive communicative mode of the dental master students is a synergistic formation, shaped by the interaction of their existing knowledge and skills in positive communication, motivation for such communication, emotional stability, continuous self-monitoring, organizational skills, communicative and philological knowledge, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as individual characteristics of applying these traits. The issue of developing communicative competence is particularly relevant in modern medical pedagogy, where the concept of positive communicative attitude or mode is more extensively covered in the works of international researchers. This article presents the results of a study on the self-assessment of the positive communicative mode among 170 dental master students from Ukrainian medical higher education institutions and its correlation with actual communicative skills, as revealed through hidden questions. Participants highly valued the importance of a positive approach in professional interactions, perceiving themselves as tolerant and communicative. However, a more detailed analysis of their responses identified inconsistencies between their declared communicative attitudes and actual behavioral patterns.A significant proportion of respondents demonstrated difficulties in accepting responsibility for conflict situations, showing a tendency to shift responsibility onto others or avoid active conflict resolution. Most participants acknowledged the impact of their emotional state on communication, which may indicate insufficiently developed self-regulation skills. Additionally, emotional reactivity was commonly observed, including raising one's voice during conversations and expressing negative judgments about others. The findings indicate discrepancies between the self-assessment of communicative competencies and their real-life application in professional interactions. Even under conditions of anonymous surveying, respondents tended to provide socially desirable responses to direct questions, whereas hidden questions allowed for a more accurate assessment of their communicative mode. The study emphasizes the need to improve communication training programs for the dental master students, particularly by integrating practical methods aimed at developing self-regulation, responsibility for interactions, and conflict resolution strategies into the educational process.
